Arequipa – Chivay – Cruz Del Condor Viewpoint – Arequipa
Your adventure begins in the early hours at 3:00 AM, as our guide warmly greets you at your Arequipa hotel. Settle into our comfortable tour transport for a direct three-hour journey to Chivay, the vibrant heart of Colca Canyon. As dawn breaks, you’ll arrive in this charming Andean town, nestled at 3600 meters above sea level and surrounded by lush agricultural fields.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast in Chivay, we set out for the Cruz del Condor viewpoint. En route, marvel at the picturesque town of Yanque, where you can witness the traditional wititi dancers in action. We’ll also pass by stunning natural landscapes including the Antahuilque viewpoint and the ancient Choquetico Tombs, each offering a unique glimpse into the valley’s cultural and natural heritage.
The highlight of our tour awaits at Cruz del Condor, where you’ll have the chance to observe the majestic Andean condors soaring against the backdrop of the deep canyon. This spot provides an unparalleled opportunity to watch these magnificent birds in their natural habitat.
We then return to Chivay, making a stop in the quaint village of Maca. Here, admire a beautifully preserved colonial church from the 16th century and observe locals tending to their terraced fields, continuing centuries-old agricultural traditions.
Next, unwind in the soothing waters of La Calera hot springs. Immerse yourself in the thermal medicinal pools and let the serene surroundings rejuvenate your body and spirit. After a relaxing soak, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in Chivay before beginning our journey back to Arequipa.
On our return, we’ll ascend to Patapampa, the highest point on our route at 4800 meters. From this vantage, the sweeping views of the volcanic mountain range, including the Ampato volcano—the discovery site of the Ice Maiden “Juanita”—are simply breathtaking.
Our descent takes us through Toqrapampa, with its picturesque lagoons and diverse Andean birdlife, and then through the Pampa Cañahuas National Park, home to herds of llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas.
We arrive back in Arequipa around 5:00 PM, where our transport will take you comfortably back to your hotel, concluding a day filled with natural wonders, cultural insights, and the tranquil beauty of Colca Canyon.
