Huaraz – Chiquian – Llamac – Cuartelhuain
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft). Travel southeast through the towns of Recuay, Catac, Chiquian, and Llamac, each offering charming glimpses of traditional Andean life. As the road ascends, the first glimpses of the Cordillera Huayhuash appear, with peaks like Ninashanca and Rondoy dominating the horizon.
The drive continues past Pocpa, where the rugged terrain begins to reveal the dramatic beauty of the range. By late afternoon, we arrive at our first campsite at Cuartelhuain (4,170m / 13,681 ft), nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by towering ridges. Relax and acclimatize as the crew prepares dinner and sets up camp.

Cuartelhuain – Sambunya Pass – Laguna Jahuacocha
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our trek with a gradual ascent toward the Sambunya Pass (4,770m / 15,650 ft), the highest point of the day. The trail climbs steadily, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Reaching the pass is a rewarding experience, as the dramatic landscapes of the Cordillera Huayhuash unfold before you.
From the pass, descend through rugged terrain, passing glacial streams and lush alpine meadows. The trail leads to Laguna Jahuacocha (4,070m / 13,353 ft), one of the most beautiful campsites in the range. With the turquoise lake reflecting the snow-capped peaks of Yerupaja and Jirishanca, this setting is nothing short of magical.

Jahuacocha – Yahuacha Pass – Huacrish Lookout – Laguna Jahuacocha
Today is a loop hike filled with spectacular scenery. The trek begins with a steady climb toward the Yahuacha Pass (4,800m / 15,748 ft). Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the Cordillera Huayhuash, with its jagged peaks piercing the sky. Keep an eye out for condors soaring above, as this region is known for its abundant wildlife.
From the pass, descend briefly to the Huacrish Lookout, a stunning vantage point offering views of both the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Huayhuash, as well as the serene Laguna Jahuacocha and Laguna Solteracocha below. After soaking in the views, return to the Jahuacocha Campsite, where you can relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

Jahuacocha – Pampa Llamac Pass – Llamac – Huaraz
On the final day, bid farewell to the Cordillera Huayhuash as we embark on a gentle trek through the Jahuacocha Valley. The trail gradually ascends to the Pampa Llamac Pass (4,300m / 14,108 ft), the last major ascent of the trek. From the pass, enjoy one final panoramic view of the mountain range, a fitting farewell to this incredible journey.
From the pass, descend steadily to the village of Llamac (3,300m / 10,827 ft), where our private transport awaits. Relax during the scenic drive back to Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft), where you’ll celebrate the completion of this unforgettable adventure.
