Huaraz – Huallanca – Queropalca – Laguna Carhuacocha
Your adventure begins early with a 4:00 AM pick-up from your accommodation in Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft). Travel along the Callejón de Huaylas Valley, where the Cordillera Blanca looms to the east and the Cordillera Negra to the west. As the journey continues through the Cordillera Huallanca, you’ll pass mining towns, verdant valleys, and dramatic mountain landscapes.
After approximately 8 hours, we arrive at the trailhead (3,970m / 13,025 ft), where the trekking begins. A gentle 3-hour hike brings us to Laguna Carhuacocha (4,150m / 13,615 ft), one of the most beautiful campsites in the range. The turquoise lake, surrounded by the towering peaks of Nevados Jirishanca, Yerupaja, and Siula Grande, creates a postcard-perfect setting for your first night under the stars.

Extra Day at Laguna Carhuacocha
Today is dedicated to exploring the breathtaking surroundings of Laguna Carhuacocha. After breakfast, embark on a day hike to the base of Yerupaja and Siula Grande, two of the most iconic peaks in the Andes. The trail leads to three glacial lakes—Gangrajanca, Siula, and Quesillococha—whose vivid hues of blue and green are fed by cascading glaciers.
Take time to soak in the majesty of the towering mountains, and if you’re lucky, witness avalanches crashing into the lakes below. This unforgettable day allows you to fully immerse yourself in the grandeur of the Cordillera Huayhuash before returning to camp at Laguna Carhuacocha.

Carhuacocha – Carhuac Pass – Janca Valley
After breakfast, the trek continues with a steady ascent to the Carhuac Pass (4,630m / 15,190 ft). This trail offers incredible views of the surrounding peaks, with every step bringing you closer to the heart of the range. At the pass, pause to enjoy the dramatic vistas of the rugged Andean landscape before descending to the serene Janca Valley (4,200m / 13,780 ft).
After setting up camp, you’ll have the option of taking a short hike to Laguna Mitucocha (4,250m / 13,944 ft), a glacial lake framed by jagged peaks. Whether you choose to explore or simply relax at camp, the day’s journey is sure to leave you inspired.

Janca – Cacananpunta Pass – Matacancha
Today’s trek takes you across the Cacananpunta Pass (4,690m / 15,387 ft), a significant milestone on the trek. The climb is steady, and the pass offers sweeping views of the valleys below and the high-altitude grasslands where llamas and vicuñas graze.
The descent into the Quebrada Cuncush Valley is gradual, with wide expanses of rolling grassy hills providing a contrast to the rugged terrain of earlier days. Arrive at the Matacancha Campsite (4,100m / 13,451 ft) by late afternoon, where you can rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Matacancha – Rondoy Punta Pass – Laguna Jahuacocha
Begin the day with a challenging ascent to the Rondoy Punta Pass (4,750m / 15,584 ft). This section of the trek is both physically demanding and visually rewarding, as the summit offers breathtaking panoramas of the Cordillera Huayhuash, with the iconic Yerupaja peak dominating the skyline.
From the pass, descend along a scenic trail to Laguna Jahuacocha (4,050m / 13,287 ft), passing the serene Laguna Solterococha along the way. Set up camp beside the tranquil waters of Jahuacocha, one of the most stunning locations on the trek. Spend the evening reflecting on the day’s achievements as the sun sets behind the peaks.

Jahuacocha – Llamac – Huaraz
The final day of your adventure begins with a gentle walk along the Jahuacocha Valley, following a meandering river and water channel that sustains the local communities. The trail then ascends to the Pampa Llamac Pass (4,300m / 14,108 ft), offering one last panoramic view of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
From the pass, the trail descends steadily into the village of Llamac (3,300m / 10,827 ft), where our private transport will be waiting to take you back to Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft). Relax and enjoy the scenic drive, reflecting on the incredible landscapes and memories of the past six days.
