As we head south, the route winds through traditional Andean towns, bustling mining camps, and scenic mountain landscapes. After a stop in the town of Huallanca, the road ascends further into the Cordillera Huallanca, offering magnificent views of rugged peaks and verdant valleys. By late afternoon, we arrive at the Queropalca District (3,830m / 12,566 ft), where we set up camp for the night.

Spend the evening enjoying the serene mountain atmosphere and a hearty dinner as you prepare for the days ahead.

Arriving at the lake, you’ll be greeted by jaw-dropping vistas of the towering Nevados Jirishanca, Yerupaja, and Siula Grande mountains. The tranquil waters of Laguna Carhuacocha reflect these iconic peaks, creating a scene straight out of a postcard.

Spend the evening at the campsite by the lake, soaking in the beauty of this magical location as the sun sets behind the mountains.

Day 3

Laguna Carhuacocha – Glacial Lakes Hike

Wake up to the awe-inspiring views of Laguna Carhuacocha, framed by snow-capped peaks. Today is a rest day, but it’s packed with adventure as we embark on an optional side trek to explore the base of Yerupaja and Siula Grande, two of the range’s most iconic mountains.

The trail takes you to three stunning glacial lakes—Gangrajanca, Siula, and Quesillococha—fed by cascading glaciers. If you’re lucky, you may witness avalanches thundering into the turquoise waters below, a truly humbling sight.

Spend the day exploring, photographing, and immersing yourself in the natural beauty of this remote alpine paradise before returning to camp at Laguna Carhuacocha.

After crossing the pass, we descend into the Janca Valley (4,150m / 13,615 ft), a lush and tranquil area perfect for relaxing after the day’s climb. For those seeking more adventure, there’s an optional 1.5-hour hike to explore the serene Laguna Mitucocha (4,250m / 13,944 ft), a glacial lake surrounded by dramatic peaks.

Begin the day with a hearty breakfast before setting out on the trail. The ascent to the Cacananpunta Pass (4,690m / 15,387 ft) is steady but rewarding, offering expansive views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. As you crest the pass, you’ll have the opportunity to spot vicuñas and other Andean wildlife roaming freely in their natural habitat.

From the pass, the trail descends into the Quebrada Cuncush Valley, a picturesque area characterized by rolling grassy hills and scattered high-altitude flora. The descent provides ample opportunities to take in the tranquility of this remote region.

Arriving at Matacancha (4,100m / 13,451 ft) by late afternoon, you’ll find a peaceful campsite where you can relax and reflect on the day’s journey. As the sun sets, the surrounding peaks are bathed in hues of orange and pink, creating a magical atmosphere.

At the pass, take time to soak in the stunning vistas before beginning the descent toward Laguna Jahuacocha (4,050m / 13,287 ft). The trail meanders through rugged terrain, passing by Laguna Solterococha, another picturesque glacial lake with vibrant turquoise waters.

Arriving at Laguna Jahuacocha, you’ll find yourself in one of the most beautiful locations in the Andes. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, creating a picture-perfect setting for your final campsite. Spend the evening enjoying the serenity of the lake, with the towering mountains reflected in its calm waters.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals: Breakfast, Snacks, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner
Hiking: Approx. 7–8 hours, 14 km

Day 7

Jahuacocha – Pampa Llamac Pass – Llamac – Huaraz

At the summit, pause to take in a final panoramic view of the Huayhuash Range, reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve just completed. From here, the trail descends steadily into the village of Llamac (3,300m / 10,827 ft).
