Day Itinerary

Huaraz – Carhuaz – Pueblo Hualcán – Laguna 513 – Huaraz

The adventure begins with an early morning departure from Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170 ft) at 7:00 AM. Travel north along the Callejón de Huaylas Valley, passing traditional Andean towns such as Carhuaz, known for its charming streets and stunning views of the Cordillera Blanca.

From Carhuaz, the drive continues to the quaint Pueblo de Hualcán (3,150m / 10,335 ft), where you’ll begin ascending into the picturesque Shonquilpampa Valley, located within the Huascarán National Park. Upon reaching the Shonquilpampa trailhead, you’ll start the hike to Laguna 513.

The trail climbs steadily, zigzagging along the Chucchún River, with the soothing sound of glacial streams accompanying your ascent. The hike becomes steeper as you approach the Laguna Rajupaquinán, a smaller glacial lake offering an excellent rest point and stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks.

The final ascent leads to the breathtaking Laguna 513 (4,400m / 14,435 ft), located at the foot of Mount Hualcán. This striking turquoise lake reflects the towering glaciers above, creating a surreal and otherworldly scene. Spend time taking in the awe-inspiring views, snapping photos, and enjoying the serenity of this high-altitude paradise.

After spending time at the lagoon, descend back to the Shonquilpampa Valley, where your private transport will be waiting. The return drive brings you back to Huaraz, arriving in the early evening, with memories of this unforgettable adventure.
