Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Monkey Island – Night Safari
Your adventure begins with a warm reception at the Puerto Maldonado Airport or bus terminal, followed by a transfer to the operator’s office for registration. From there, head to the port captaincy to board a motorized boat for a scenic one-hour ride along the Madre de Dios River to your lodge. Upon arrival, enjoy a refreshing fruit juice as part of your welcome meeting before settling into your comfortable accommodations.
After lunch, cross the river to visit Monkey Island, a sanctuary for various monkey species, including playful Capuchin monkeys. Learn about their habits and behaviors as they interact with their natural environment.
In the evening, embark on an exciting night safari along the Madre de Dios River. Using flashlights, search for white alligators resting on sandbanks and perhaps spot a capybara, the largest rodent in the world, weighing up to 60 kg. Return to the lodge for dinner and a restful night surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the Amazon.

Lake Sandoval Exploration – Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, set off on a 3 km trek through the dense tropical forest to reach Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. This pristine lake is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, including piranhas, exotic birds like shanshos, cormorants, and jacanas, as well as various monkey species such as howler monkeys, black capuchins, and pichicos.
Board a rowboat to explore the lake’s tranquil waters, keeping an eye out for a giant otter family, which can grow up to 2 meters long, as well as large caimans, some exceeding 4 meters in length. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this incredible ecosystem.
Return to the lodge for a hearty lunch, then transfer back to Puerto Maldonado in the afternoon. Conclude your journey with a drop-off at the bus terminal or airport, bringing your Amazon adventure to an end.
