Day 1: Journey from Cusco to the Majestic Palccoyo Mountain and Pomacanchi Lake
Your two-day adventure begins with an early morning hotel pickup in Cusco, marking the start of an unforgettable journey. We’ll travel southward, reaching the rustic town of Combapata before venturing off the beaten path towards Palccoyo Mountain. A delightful, locally-sourced breakfast prepared by our talented chef awaits you at the mountain’s base, providing the perfect energy boost for the day ahead.
The trek to Palccoyo Mountain is an immersive experience in nature’s artistry. The landscape unfolds into a vibrant palette of colors and unique geological formations. Witness the iconic color-striped mountains and the mesmerizing stone forest, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the imposing Ausangate Mountain, the tallest in the Cusco region.
After immersing yourself in the natural beauty of Palccoyo, we’ll descend to our starting point, where a buffet lunch, carefully crafted by our chef, is served against the spectacular backdrop of the Andean landscapes.
Our next destination is the serene Pomacanchi Lagoon. Here, we’ll set up camp for the night by this tranquil water body, home to trout and diverse native fish species. The afternoon is yours to explore the picturesque shores of the lagoon, followed by a delightful dinner and a peaceful night’s rest in our comfortable tents.

Day 2: Exploring Waqrapukara and Return to Cusco
Awaken to a beautiful sunrise over Pomacanchi Lagoon, and enjoy a nutritious breakfast prepared by our chef. We then embark on a short drive to Punta Carretera, the starting point of our hike to the enigmatic Waqrapukara.
As we trek, the Andean landscape transforms around us, revealing high-altitude lakes and breathtaking vistas. Upon reaching the Waqrapukara viewpoint, you’ll be greeted with your first sight of this ancient Incan fortress, set dramatically against the backdrop of the Apurímac River Valley.
Our exploration of Waqrapukara delves into its history and unique rock formations, with time to appreciate the ancient rock paintings that echo a rich cultural past. After thoroughly exploring this archaeological wonder, we’ll descend to the Huayqui Community, capturing more stunning photos of the unique landscapes.
